Data Governance in Practice, a Case Study

This project helped to enrich the online presence of a company and changed their direction in the Ecommerce space. Data gives us the insight we need to make proper decisions.

With meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to excellence, we create a data sphere that can be used as the source of truth.

ASICs, in an attempt to better meet customer needs, introduced Tru-Fit to their website. Tru-Fit is a service that interviews a customer about their particular needs in footwear, and attempts to match the user to the ideal shoe/type that fits their running style. When it was introduced, the company saw a 10% increase in sales. The sales could either be contributed to Tru-Fit, or to the recent expansion within the ecommerce space. To evaluate this properly, ASICs needed to run an A/B test with properly maintained analytics. I worked on getting our analytics program (through a stringent audit) into a correct spot to monitor the analytics for our global set up.

After completion of the audit and running the A/B test, it turned out that ASICs was actually performing 35% better without Tru-fit, and in fact that Tru-fit was causing a higher than normal return rate, up to 50%. These are metrics we would not have been able to properly track without a proper analytics setup. Proper data protocols are part of a strong Data Governance setup, and this case study emphasizes how strong of a result a data governance audit can have.
